August 13, 2008

A couple of months ago, Officer C. Jones and I were able to finally return to a normal life thanks to Attorneys Greg Cagle and Scot Courtney.

The last year of our life was deeply effected by an in-custody death that we were involved in.  I want to say that I was truly surprised and appreciative at the service received by both attorneys, and the extent to which they and the TMPA were willing to go to support and defend members who had been wrongly accussed.

I have dealt with attorneys in the past and none have come even close to the accessibilty and service I got while using the services of Cagle and Courtney.  Officer Jones and I want to express our deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to these attorneys and the TMPA.  Without the services we were provided, who knows how our lives would have changed.

I want all the members to know that if you are in need, the TMPA is a top notch organization with the highest quality legal services.

Thank you,

Officer J. Buckaloo

Pasadena Officers Found Not Guilty

via email to Greg Cagle (June 3, 2008)

Greg,

I just wanted to tell you thanks for representing us to the best of your ability. The verdict yesterday is just a simple reminder of how quick we are to be judged. Thankfully, you and your partner were able to convince the jury that these officers were only doing what they were trained to do. This not guilty [verdict] was a verdict for cops everywhere.

Thanks for all you do for us

At this time, I would like to thank TMPA and Attorney Greg Cagle
for the SPECTACULAR assistance that he and Julie gave me on an assault
case that I was charged with.

If it had not been for TMPA I would not have had the finances to have
fought this case.

TMPA, along with Greg Cagle et al, stood behind me all the way through the
whole process that only took 7 months to go to court and get found not
guilty. Although it was reduced to a M-C for trial, I feel as if Greg
Cagle approached the court as if defending me from a death penalty. God
bless both of them and TMPA for all their support and help.

Thank You.

Sincerely,

David Seans Evans

Gentlemen,

My name is Carlos J. Echeverry and I was represented by Greg Cagle and Scot Courtney in my official oppression case that ended last month after a nine month long ordeal. Words cannot begin to describe how great these two gentlemen acted and worked to get me cleared of all charges.

Greg was in constant contact with me in regards to any new hearings or changes to my case. If I was to ever need legal representation again, these two great lawyers would be the ones that I would call in a heart beat. Praises to them and to your organization for all the great work you do in making us police officers feel like we can do our job without fear.

Once again, thank you and I promote both TMPA and my two great lawyers, Greg Cagle and Scot Courtney to all my police officer friends.

I want to thank TMPA and specifically Greg Cagle for a very quick response on February 13, 2007. I have no words to express my appreciation for all the hard work that helped that helped walk me through this terrifying experience. I also thank Larry McDougal for all his assistance on short notice. Their knowledge, experience, and professionalism was priceless. I encourage all Texas law enforcement men and women to become TMPA members.

Dear Chris,

I just wanted to write to thank you, your organization, and my TMPA attorney Greg Cagle for all the help you provided to me during the last year and a half. On December 4, 2003, I was terminated . . . I won't go into depth regarding the incident, but let's just say that on the night of Thanksgiving 2003 I arrested a subject with a TCLEOSE card in his wallet. Before my termination, I contacted Greg Cagle, who I consider to be a good personal friend and who I consider to be the best friend to any and all police officers in this region, who reassured me I did nothing wrong. Still, I felt I was going to lose my job and, sure enough, I did. Mr. Cagle prepared an appeal to present to the Kemah city council and the mayor. . . but the council decided between what one of them called 'doing the right thing or backing the chief' to unanimously uphold my termination. . .

After an unsuccessful attempt to re-enter the area's law enforcement community, I decided it was time to go ahead with a lawsuit against the city and chief Owen, so in May of 2004 Greg Cagle prepared my lawsuit. In April of this year, we won that lawsuit!!!!! I was restored to my position as police Sergeant, recovered my back pay, and the court ordered the disciplinary action and related documents which formed the basis of the termination to be expunged from my employment records. On top of that, the person I arrested filed a lawsuit and that case was settled out of court, so it seems Kemah was doubly wrong!!! Not only did they have to pay me for wrongfully terminating me, but they had to pay my arrestee because they chose not to back me on a righteous arrest.

None of this would have been possible without my choosing to be a member of the Texas Municipal Police Association and its outstanding legal defense fund. There is no way I would have been able to afford to hire an attorney, much less the services of someone as competent as Greg Cagle, had I not opted to maintain a membership with the TMPA.

Everyone of us has car insurance, homeowner's or renter's insurance, health insurance, and life insurance, but not all of us thinks about career insurance until it's too late. I implore every police officer in the state of Texas to get on board and join the TMPA BEFORE they need it. I was ordered to receive all these things by the court, but the one thing it did not specify to be restored to me which was most important to me, and which was restored to me by the very outcome of the judgment, was my good name and reputation. Thank God for your organization and for Greg Cagle. If I ever choose to get back into law enforcement again*, my first expense will be renewing my membership with TMPA. I personally consider membership in TMPA to be mandatory, and every officer in Texas should do the same.

Respectfully,

Ivan Martinez, former Sergeant of Police, Kemah Police Department

* Ivan has recently been hired by another agency and is continuing his career in law enforcement.

Dear Sir/Madam:

I would like to take the time to inform you of the incredible job Gregory B. Cagle performed for me. I was wrongfully terminated from my position as a police officer with Conroe Police Department in June 2003. With the help of TMPA and Attorney Gregory Cagle, I was awarded my position in August 2004 with back pay. He stayed in constant contact during this past year, even when I was deployed to Bosnia with my National Guard unit.

I have always believed there are way too many lawyers in this world and that the majority of them were nothing more than ambulance chasing vultures. Gregory Cagle has definitely changed my mind and is a great asset to the legal profession. He has an understanding of police officers and the thankless job they must achieve, which is very important in today’s ever changing political environment. Gregory Cagle is a valuable and dedicated lawyer that will be needed in today’s police departments to uphold and serve the law.

Again, thank you so much for Gregory Cagle as my TMPA attorney.

Sincerely,

Mark W. Goodman

Dear Sirs:

On behalf of my family, my men, and me, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA) and your Region 2 attorney, Mr. Gregory Cagle. Mr. Cagle is an outstanding attorney and your organization is well represented with his knowledge of the law and his professionalism.

San Jacinto County District Attorney Mark Price filed a RICO suit and a removal suit against me, an elected constable of seven years on August 7, 2003. The charges were prompted by my report of a criminal offense of child pornography on County Judge William Law's county computer. After reporting the offense I was sued civilly along with two named and six unnamed co-conspirators. All charges were dropped October 27, 2003.

Mr. Cagle provided not only legal defense, but also friendship to my family and me during this very trying time. He and his staff are caring professionals and should be commended for their efforts in seeing that justice is done.

We will never forget what TMPA and Gregory Cagle have done for us.

Sincerely,

Jerry W. Everitt, Constable San Jacinto County (Pct. 2)

I have been employed in Fire/Police agencies since 1958 and have worked with and observed a fair share of attorneys in that period of time. However, I must inform my fellow members that I regard Attorney Greg Cagle as the most sincere, prepared and qualified attorney I have ever had the pleasure of being involved with during a court appearance. On Jan 17 2003, he represented me in a hearing that consisted of some of the most trumped up charges I have ever heard in my entire career. Without his expertise, properness and knowledge, I would not have endured the entire hearing without losing my cool. I can assure you that if I am ever in need of representation in the future, I would definitely choose Mr. Cagle as my attorney.

I have been with other organizations such as C.L.E.A.T. and I can say that none compare to TMPA. Recently, I was demoted from patrol sergeant to patrol officer because I reported a criminal violation on the behalf of my chief of police. A formal grievance was filed and I was retaliated against for it. I contacted TMPA and Kevin Lawrence got me with attorney Greg Cagle. I had already heard top notch stories about Mr. Cagle and his relentless pursuit on the behalf of wronged officers. To no surprise, Mr. Cagle responded immediately to my case and stayed in touch with me on a regular basis through the entire three-month ordeal. After it was all said and done, I was promoted back to sergeant and the city council went against the chief of police for his blatant retaliation against me. The city council voted unanimously to reinstate my rank and assure me that the retaliation that I suffered would not be tolerated in my city. Without a doubt, if I ever need legal defense, whether administrative or criminal, Mr. Cagle will be first on my list of attorneys. TMPA should be proud to have such a dedicated and competent attorney on its staff. My hatís off to TMPA, Mr. Lawrence, and Mr. Cagle. Thank you.

On March 17, 2002, my life changed forever. If it weren't for Greg Cagle to correct a wrong, my life would be very, very different now. I, along with three other officers encountered a male who was suicidal after just being dumped by his girlfriend. After trying to calm him down, I had no other alternative but to take him to the ground so we could take him into custody and get him a mental health warrant. During the scuffle, my finger was broken, which now contains two plates and four screws. The suspect was charged with assault against a public servant, but to get out of his charge he lied and stated that the four of us assaulted him. We were labeled by the public and the media instantly as four cops gone bad. The DA's office indicted us on Official Oppression with the assistance of a Grand Jury only hearing one side of the story. . .

Greg Cagle worked on my case it seems as if it were his number one case and after a year of administrative duties and a two week trial, he was able to show the jury the truth of what happened that night. With the help of Greg Cagle, I got my life back. Greg Cagle was there for me when not many people were. If it were not for Greg Cagle and the rest of the TMPA team out there, I would not be here today buying a new house, and continuing my dream career in law enforcement with the Deer Park Police Department. THANK YOU GREG CAGLE!!!
